8. _V_i_d_e_o__L_i_b_r_a_r_y__E_x_e_c_u_t_i_o_n__E_n_v_i_r_o_n_m_e_n_t
The Silicon Graphicsr Video Library is a device independent
library for video devices on Silicon Graphics workstations
equipped with video hardware. VL EOE is the first release
of the execution environment and supports the built in video
in Indy systems, as well as Galileo Video on Indigo2 and
Indigo, and Indy Video on Indy. Future releases will
support additional video devices.
The execution environment for video includes the video
daemon, a control panel, _v_i_d_e_o_p_a_n_e_l, that can be launched
from the Icon Catalog, as well as _v_i_d_e_o_i_n, an application
that displays video in a window on the screen. On hardware
options that support video output capabilities, the
environment also includes _v_i_d_e_o_o_u_t, an application that
allows you to select a windowed area of the screen or the
whole screen to send to video output connectors. There are
also two command line applications, _v_i_d_t_o_m_e_m and _m_e_m_t_o_v_i_d
that support frame in from and out to video. Documentation
of these tools is included in the Utilities Guide.
The Video Library Execution Environment subsystem in IRIS
Digital Media Execution Environment 5.5 is the same as the
5.3 version.
8.1 _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s
The video devices have certain configuration values. There
are factory defaults for each device stored in :
/usr/etc/video/videod.defaults._d_e_v_i_c_e, where _d_e_v_i_c_e is ev1
for Galileo Video and Indy Video, and vino for Indy VINO
(Video In No Out). Using _v_i_d_e_o_p_a_n_e_l you can restore these,
as well as saving and restoring a local configuration in
/usr/etc/video/videod.defaults. The names of certain
controls changed from release 5.1. You may need to set and
resave any configurations saved prior to 5.2.
8.2 _K_n_o_w_n__P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s__a_n_d__W_o_r_k_a_r_o_u_n_d_s
+o Not all application follow default input. When using
videopanel to set the default input, you may need to
quit and restart the application if it is already
running.
+o There is no concept of a default device in the current
video environment. When you switch devices in the
video control panel, there is no event sent to the
application. It is up to the application to present a
way to switch devices. This is only an issue for
- 2 -
systems with multiple boards in them.
+o For certain monitors and timings you may want to use
the _s_e_t_m_o_n command. See the man page for details.
8.3 _C_h_a_n_g_e_s__a_n_d__A_d_d_i_t_i_o_n_s
+o The Video Library Execution Environment subsystem in
IRIS Digital Media Execution Environment 5.5 is the
same as the 5.3 version.
+o There is a command line interface to the vl called
_v_l_c_m_d. See the man page for details.
8.4 _B_u_g__F_i_x_e_s
+o If you invoked _v_i_d_e_o_o_u_t with illegal arguments, the
arguments were ignored and _v_i_d_e_o_o_u_t was invoked. Now,
you will get a usage message, and _v_i_d_e_o_o_u_t is not
invoked.
+o There was a black band on the left of some videoin
windows. The black band is gone.
+o The user can use the genlock functionality and run the
_v_i_d_t_o_m_e_m application at the same time. This was not
allowed in a previous release.
+o In some cases when many windows were displayed on the
screen, a window initialized as a video screen drain
would not display video data. The window now correctly
displays the video data.
8.5 _I_n_d_y__V_I_N_O__P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s__a_n_d__W_o_r_k_a_r_o_u_n_d_s
+o When viewing video from an external source, if you fast
forward or rewind the source, the _v_i_d_e_o_i_n application
can loose synchronization. Restart the application to
regain a clean video signal.
+o If yo have an IndyCam and have not installed
_v_i_n_o._s_w._e_o_e or if you do not have the IndyCam plugged
in when you boot your system, the hardware inventory
command _h_i_n_v reports:
Vino video: unit 0, revision 0, Indycam not connected.
Be sure to plug the IndyCam in before you start up your
system. Once you install _v_i_n_o._s_w._e_o_e. and reboot,
your system will report correctly:
Vino video: unit 0, revision 0, Indycam connected.
- 3 -
+o If the input video stream is frozen (by using _F_r_e_e_z_e on
the _v_i_d_e_o_p_a_n_e_l) and the window is obscured and then
uncovered, the video frame is not redrawn correctly.
Unfreeze the video to have it redrawn.
8.6 _G_a_l_i_l_e_o__V_i_d_e_o__a_n_d__I_n_d_y__V_i_d_e_o__P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s__a_n_d__W_o_r_k_a_r_o_u_n_d_s
+o If you resize the _v_i_d_e_o_i_n application to it's minimum
size, 96 x 72, you may see garbage lines on the bottom
and the right edge of the image.
+o When using _v_i_d_t_o_m_e_m to capture a burst of consecutive
frames, you can only capture up to 4 at once. To
capture more frames call _v_i_d_t_o_m_e_m repeatedly.
+o There is one line of invalid data across the bottom of
the _v_i_d_e_o_i_n window using PAL format.
+o There may be one line of invalid data across the top
and side of the _v_i_d_e_o_o_u_t image.
+o Galileo Video on the Indigo platform will only work
with the R4000 CPU using XS, XS24, XS24Z, XZ, and Elan
level graphics.
8.7 _D_o_c_u_m_e_n_t_a_t_i_o_n__E_r_r_o_r_s
+o There are no known errors in the documentation.
